Sky Juice

by Nadia on August 23, 2008 posted in Health

One time I was talking to a friend about all the kinds of juices that are currently available in the supermarkets. The friend proceeded to tell me their favorite juices and asked me what were mine. With the intention to be funny, I said that sky juice was my favorite. My friend looked confused…what was sky juice? I responded by saying that sky juice was water.

About a few months ago, I decided to check out why we need eight to ten cups of water a day. I was shocked to learn that the human body is about 75% water which means two-thirds of your body weight is water! Who knew? When you look at the human body, the last thing you are thinking is that you are 75% water. The body just seems to be a mass of organs, bone and skin…but mainly water?

It turns out that each day your body needs the eight to ten cups of water to replace what is used by your brain, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, muscles and blood. When you exercise, you need more than the usual eight to ten because of the exertion placed on the body.

Water is essential to all that happens in your body. For example, did you know that the water you drink helps lubricate your joints? Water helps flush out the toxins that the body absorbs from the food you put in your body, the products you use on your body and whatever else you may absorb. Water also helps the heart to work properly. Even your brain needs water in order to function properly.  The human body can sustain for some time without food but without water, the body cannot last long.

Another interesting fact is that most people are suffering from dehydration and do not know it. Symptoms of dehydration are most of the time mistaken as hunger pangs or a desire for food. Sometimes migraine headaches are caused by dehydration as are some allergies and hypertension.

One more thing, soda and all other junk drinks available in the supermarket DO NOT count as a substitute for water. For example, did you know that a 12 ounce can of soda contains an average of 9 teaspoons of sugar…refined white sugar and usually a few other unhealthly ingredients. Water contains no sugar and is all natural. Which do you want inside you?

Until next time, have an awesome week!
