The concept of harmony, as you know, has been on my mind quite a lot recently. When you are working on having your outer life match your inner life, you cannot help but realize how important it is for the mind, body and spirit to be in sync.
In Eastern thought, it is believed that the human body is comprised of seven chakras. Each one of those chakras is symbolized as a spinning wheel. A harmonized body is when all seven chakras are spinning in unison.
The bottom three chakras relate to issues that deal with the physical world. The fourth chakra (heart) is like a neutral zone that links the physical and spiritual world. The top three chakras represent spiritual issues/world. We all have issues that we are dealing with and when an issue is left unchecked, it will manifest as some physical ailment.

I never used to believe this until I read Anatomy of the Spirit. That book made me realize that my emotions dictate not only my experience but also how my body feels. We are surrounded by germs constantly but only when our immune system is low are we susceptible to getting sick.
Emotions that are never healed can manifest into diseases like cancer or some other illness. Of course, science may not necessarily back this up but more and more doctors are focusing time on the importance of mind, body and spirit. Take for example, Dr. Deepak Chopra and Dr. Andrew Weil. Both men show that once we get a handle on how we live, we can affect our bodies which in turn affects our health.
The more in tune you become to what is happening within you, the more aware you become of how your emotions will appear in your body. Unvoiced thoughts or feelings may appear as a sore throat. Stress regarding how your life is may manifest as a migraine headache. Everything is connected. What you eat, think and feel will impact your body on some level.
Since it is the start of the New Year, a lot of focus in magazines and at the bookstore is on how to lose weight. For the record, I have been on so many diets and even though some of them worked, they never had long term results. Diets will never work unless you change how you look at not only your body but at your life. Your body is a wonderfully designed machine. Respect it and realize that any time you get upset or stressed, your body gets impacted too.
Love not only yourself but your body too. If you can get up in the morning and do what you have to do, that is a huge blessing!
With this in mind, many women out there struggle with pms and other pre-menopausal issues. I was recently asked to review the book Female Brain Gone Insane. A lot of the information in that book was not new to me since I have read up on these things in the past. However, that said, I highly recommend this book for women who are in their thirties and above. It is full of information that might come in handy.
Personally, I am not a fan of taking medicine unless you really have to do so. Many people take pills in order to deal with something without really dealing with an issue. Most illnesses are a result of unresolved emotions but not everyone shares that belief which I totally understand and respect.
So just do what feels right to you. What is more important is that you begin to understand that you are an amazing being whose mind, body and spirit are essential aspects to who you are at any given moment.

Yes, it’s very true that there is a maximum chance to fall sick when you emotionally disturbed or upset. It’s my personal experience too! I know the the 7 chakras are very important in Reiki healing. When you’ll go to learn Reiki from Reiki master..they will open your 7 chakras.
So lovely post Nadia! It’s very timely post. And much thanks for book suggestion.
Will let you know when i get a copy.

Sonia´s last blog ..Hearty Tomato Soup!
Hi Sonia,
I do not know much about Reiki so it is very interesting that they also focus on chakras. Thank you for sharing that with me!
Mind, body and spirit all work together and when one aspect is not in harmony with the others, then that will cause some problems at some point down the road.
Actually, last summer I became very ill when I was working at my old job. I knew from the first day it was because my old job was not in alignment with my true self. Looking back at it, that was the first sign of this whole journey to align my outer life with my inner life. It took being unemployed to finally accept it.
Hope all is awesome with you!
I don’t even remember how I got to believe in all this chakra and energy stuff. I just feel that it is true. It may not be exactly like people say it is, but the big picture is probably right. Our emotions have a lot to do with our health.
I’ve noticed a lot of upheaval since moving, so it’s good to clear that stuff out. What kind of methods do you use to clear out bad emotions? Do you just meditate and accept or is there something else?

Henri @ Wake Up Cloud´s last blog ..I Need Your Help
Hi Henri,
I never used to believe that emotions impacted the body but then I read a few books which changed my outlook. Unresolved emotions are the ones that will have the most impact because they just get bigger and bigger. Everything works together…mind, body and spirit. So when one is out of harmony, it will have an impact on the other two. Often people will take far better care of their cars than themselves. We get our tires aligned and so on. Yet do we ever get ourselves aligned?
As for your question, can you be a bit more specific? For me, one of the negative emotions that I sometimes have issues with is fear and that often comes up in the form of worry. When I start to see the worry arising, I just ask myself what is it that is causing me to worry. Just as the quote I shared with you said, if there is a solution to my worry, then I go and take care of it. If there seems to be no solution, then worrying won’t help. I also remind myself that every other time I worried, everything always managed to work out on some level. So I go back to living in faith.
Now if the negative emotion is in relation to another person such as someone did something which bothered me, I ask myself why was I bothered. Is it because my ego was hurt, was there some truth in what the person said or is the other person taking their frustration out on me?
I guess I just ask a bunch of questions in an effort to get to the cause of the issue and work through it.
Does that help?
It does help! I was curious as to how you go about it. I do something similar myself. I call it “getting curious about your fear/worry/etc”.
Time for me to go listen to my audiobook, just got it: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
Hi Henri,
I am happy to be of help!
And cool on the book. I am happy that you were able to get the audio version. I have read the book but enjoyed it more when I listened to it. The person who is reading the book does such an awesome job. Let me know what you think!
Hi Nadia, thanks for the review. I think sometimes it’s hard to maintain that inner peace esp. when our body chemistry is changing due to fluctuating hormones. We can feel very out of control. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to always feel balanced? Wish I could achieve that!!
We really appreciate the time spent reading and reviewing Female Brain Gone Insane. Thanks so much!
lisamm´s last blog ..If you feed them, they will grow..
Hi Lisa,
Thank you so much for letting me be a part of the book tour!
The book was a very interesting read and I can understand why so many women feel out of whack due to the hormonal fluctuations. I guess because of my experiences and studies, I do feel that everything is a result of something going on emotionally. Women have so many pressures with family and work and so on. Stress can cause havoc to our bodies.
What is fascinating to me is that my grandmother and great grandmother both lived way past the age of 80 without ever once having to go to the doctor. They never had hormonal issues and yet they had numerous kids. I wonder why women today have more problems than previous generations. Maybe our lives are just more demanding now? I guess only God/The Universe knows!
“Love not only yourself but your body too. If you can get up in the morning and do what you have to do, that is a huge blessing!”
Well said, thank you!
Hi Constance,
Thank you so much for the positive feedback! It is the little things that mean so much which so many take for granted.
Hope all is well with you!
PMS is a tricky condition – it’s got over 130 symptoms, and they’re the same as those that were attributed to hysteria in the 19th century! Super suspicious.
I’ve read numerous cross-cultural studies that show that PMS (not PMDD) is a cultural phenomenon influenced by what kind of view is instilled in a girl regarding her body, menstruation, and womanhood by her family in particular but also her community.
It’s fascinating – and utterly appalling that the pharmaceutical industry in the West takes advantage of this culture’s disrespect of women and the feminine by milking it (pun intended) to pump women with drugs when they get a headache, cramps, or snap when the problem is not biological but cultural. It’s a vicious cycle of greed, misogyny, and women’s self-loathing.
I encourage you to conduct research on the subject in various types of academic journals if you’re interested. An intriguing book on the topic is called “The Wise Wound” (referring to the vagina).
Natalia´s last blog ..Hello there!
Hi Natalia,
I totally agree with you. Cultural influences are a huge factor which is often overlooked. As I stated in one reply to a comment, my grandmother and great grandmother both lived well past their 80s and never had any issues. Both had lots of kids. Both were healthy and ironically, both were very young looking too. Neither went to the doctor. So I have often wondered what caused things to change between past generations and the women of today. To be fair, both of those relatives lived outside of America which helps prove the point about cultural differences and influences.
Thank you so much for the book recommendation. I will have to check that out. I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts too. As an American woman, I have to tell you, we get bombarded a lot about our bodies and most of the messages we receive are not very positive. Hopefully, this will change sooner than later.
Hi Nadia .. I’m so pleased to have read your post and as I go on I will start to understand more and more; the chakras are something I need to explore – but through this community of bloggers I know that I will find the information as I need it.
Personally I hate taking medication or seeing the doctor – and avoid both like the plague if pos. So the book looks interesting and I’ll almost certainly get it – just ordered The Guitar and its on its way ..
I’ve posted this para on Patricia’s blog .. but thought others who come here might be interested ..
I just thought I’d put another book into the mix .. about 10 years ago I started having pelvic organ prolapse .. fortunately it’s static .. but I looked at the alternatives without worrying to much – as I (fortunately) don’t fall into that category. I came across an American book “Saving the whole Woman” by Christine Ann Kent, published by BridgeWorks. Here she gives the essential reasons why women should never have hysterectomy .. I have to say half the book I could have done without .. but I read what I needed & was suitably impressed to take cognizance of that above fact. She gives exercises et al .. – another book for us women to know about.

Hi Hilary,
Chakras are big in Eastern thought but not very well known in the West unless you are into message therapy and spirituality. It is an interesting topic and there are a lot of books out there. Quite a few bloggers have discussed the subject too. So you will have no problem learning more about it.
And that is wonderful that you ordered “The Guitar”. Let me know what you think after you see it. I will forever love that movie for it changed my life.
I also appreciate the book recommendation and what you wrote over at Patricia’s site.
Hope all is well with you and your mother!
Hi Nadia,
What I love about my yoga teacher training retreats each month is the study of which chakras are activated in each pose. About six months ago, while we went through a 90 minute class of specific poses for each chakra, and we were activating svadhistana, it dawned on me that this chakra awoke in me in late 2002 as I dreamed the color Orange and an outdoor wedding. The poem I wrote all those years ago finally made sense – as it was my own rebirth I witnessed.
Not one for magic pills and wonder drugs, I resisted some of what my doctors tried pushing on me while I underwent breast cancer treatment. The hot flashes I had due to chemopause were annoying and they tried prescribing me Effexor. I asked them, “what’s it for?”
“Depression.”
“I’m not drepressed.”
“women report it eases hot flashes.”
“So? Why would I take an anti-depressant for hot flashes?”
I told them that I’ll refer to my hot flashes as power surges and wipe the sweat off with a towel.
Besides, where I live, hot flashes are necessary in the winter

Peggy´s last blog ..Struggle
Hi Peggy,
Good for you! You are right, hot flashes would seem to come in handy in a chilly winter!
You ever notice that the side-effects for medicine often sound far worse than the condition the medicine is supposed to be helping?
And yay for witnessing your own re-birth! We are often given signs or symbols which at the time may not make sense. Only to remember them years later once all the pieces have fallen into place.
Hope all is awesome !:)
Nadia the connection is so clear to me! Just this morning, I started thinking about something my 13 year old said yesterday afternoon that really riled me up (easy for a 13 year old to do)….so today, as I retold the “story” to my husband (triggered by something else) the emotions resurfaced…within moments I became so highly agitated my voice shifted and I had difficulty speaking….this is not new, the voice thing-it’s been going on for months because of MS…but it was so clear that increased anxiety had a direct physiological impact on my brain function…it just stopped me in my tracks! So I sat, I breathed, I let go of the story. It might pop again later, but now with a new awareness.

Hi Laura,
So many things come to mind after reading your comment. That is wonderful that you were able to be so in tune with your body that you recognized what was happening. A perfect example of awareness!
And isn’t it amazing how our body will respond when we are emotionally affected? I know for me, whenever I start to get consumed with worry, I feel it immediately in my chest. You know how sometimes you can get so worked up but you are not aware of it…then it presents itself in your body and it is a huge wake up call!
By the way, a great site to find out which body parts are associated with which chakra, can be found at: http://myss.com/library/chakras/ .
Love and blessings to you!
Hi Nadia – Great topic. I’m fascinated by the mind/body connection, and so much cool, cutting-edge stuff is going on in this field right now. Years ago I was very skeptical about it, but I attended a Gregg Levoy “Callings” workshop, and he asked us to “write down a recurring body symptom that has some juice for you. If it could talk, what would that symptom say to you?” As I used this question for myself and my clients, I began to notice that when we are out of sync with our heart’s desire or off the path for some reason, our psyche will indeed try to get our attention through illness and physical symptoms. It never fails to amaze me!
Patty – Why Not Start Now?´s last blog ..Why Self-Help Bores Me
Hi Patty,
That is cool how your perspective changed after attending that workshop. Thank you so much for providing confirmation of the concept that unresolved emotional issues will manifest into some physical symptom/problem. Just like you, it never ceases to amaze me. I have this chart which lists physical issues with the corresponding emotional issue. Whenever something has come up in my body, I have referred to that chart. It has been right 99.9% of the time.
I think the reason why so many are skeptical is because we view each aspect as being something separate and individual as opposed to being three parts that are designed to work in harmony with one another.
Hope all is awesome with you!
Hi Nadia:
I enjoyed your post – especially since I am a strong believer in the mind-body connection. As you indicated, it might be difficult to find scientific evidence of this…but my instincts tell me this is the case. I especially see this on stressful days when my breathing is shallow and my body aches. Thank you for this great explanation on harmony (which is such a great word) and the chakras. Oh, and once again your book recommendation for Anatomy of a Spirit really intrigues me. I’ve heard of it, but its good to hear more buzz. Thanks again!
Tim´s last blog ..Feeding Our Minds
Hi Tim,
I think the word that best describes my current focus in life is “harmony”. Ever since I have been unemployed, it has been really obvious that my outer life needs to be in harmony with my inner life. So it is appearing all over in my writing.
And good for you for being so aware of what is happening inside your body when you are really stressed. That is what happens to me when I get consumed with worry. I feel it in my chest and that is a huge warning sign that I need to just stop worrying. Some days it is easier than others but I think I am getting better at it.
As for “Anatomy of the Spirit”, coolest book in the world on gettting to know more about chakras and the mind-body-spirit connection.
Hope all is stress free!
Nadia,
I was looking forward to your book review. Though I thought the book was not so much about pill and anti depressant therapy rather about when your body is out of balance finding ways to get it back in balance with a bit of help from knowledge. I also liked her emphasis on keeping a chart so you gain more self knowledge.
As a person who was born with a cancer tumor attacked to my right chest , which was bigger than I was, and as a person who has had 6 more rounds of cancer in my lifetime….I choose to think of cancer as my guru. I do not chose to think of myself as out of balance or out of right relationship – nor do I blame my mother….if I blame anything it is American industrial food and chemicals.
I have studied Chakras and healing for most of my life….my mother lived to 94, maternal Grandmother to 96 and Great Grandmother to 106 (all in other countries than USA) My mother had an untreated heart squeak all of her life and no female problems. My mother took American meds after she got pneumonia at 91 and a heart guy put her on something which kept her alive and suffering for 3 more years – she was angry.
My greatest healing has been massage.
My greatest hate experienced was the hysterectomy and no assistance with going hormonally cold turkey….not only did the surgeons wreck my insides, they said 11 years of night sweats and hot flashes and just feeling awful was normal….I had to have surgery with a plastic surgeon to put my insides back together….I have felt the full force of the hatred of the American Medical Profession and the hatred against women is huge…especially now – it just radiates off people….
I guess I am a bit hysterical about the way women are treated and how women in the USA are so non-supportive of others and judgmental of each other. I find women in their 30s and 40s so surface and I keep trying to open a dialogue. I just left a women’s organization that owns a college….because they could not focus on education but rather only on what size they were, their shoes, and recent trips – never talk health, education, or community politics – never.
I am working with an Irish Medical Intuitive now…when I can afford it…hoping to get some more massages in the near future ….
I liked Lundin’s approach because one gets the knowledge, respect, and assistance when help is needed – and help that is relevant to the individual – and then guidance on how to maintain the balance through your own body knowledge.
I am not a take a pill person….I would still want to meet with this woman and experience some symptom relief – and I also think she must be a profound listener.
The book is just more knowledge to add to one’s own self love and respect.
I know I am an exception….an abnormality….
I also truly like how the plastic surgeon put my youngest child’s face together with her birth defect…cleft palate complete…and gave her ear tubes….
Oh these pre-exisiting not prayed away conditions….they will make you use up the whole life attempting to pay for them….thanks for doing the review….I hope this gets the word out to many…

Hi Patricia,
I love your comment. It was beautiful. I found myself nodding along as I read it.
As a result of my mother’s passing due to a rare kind of cancer, I have come to notice that more and more people are getting cancer than before. My feeling is that food and water are no more as pure as they used to be. Some areas of America do have very clean water that you can drink from the tap. That is not the case where I live.
I am allergic to high fructose corn syrup so I have to shop at a natural foods store and as I have learned more about how our food is not food, I no longer care to shop at a regular supermarket unless I really have to do so. It is heart breaking to know that most of the foods sold at a regular store are chemicals and not real food. It is so sad how things have changed in regard to food.
Your point about relationships between women in America is an interesting point. I think it is true regardless of gender because most people view each other with fear as opposed to viewing each other as members of a community. People are so scared and cautious, they view each other with fear. When I was working at the law firm, I often felt like a being from another planet because I just was a happy person and did not complain about my life. I also found it hard to have small talk because I really could care less about where someone ate or what they bought and so on. Material things do not interest me but I understand why people are afraid to go deeper….they just do not know how or maybe they are scared that there is more to life than what they know. I have no idea as to what is the right answer but there is definitely a lot of shallowness out there.
However, I also think there are many people who are looking for meaning. That is why so many people turn to blogs so that they can find like minded people. So you are not alone in your views.
And your points about the book “Female Brain Gone Insane” are great ones too. It is a great book for women who are dealing with such issues. I personally am not so reading the book was more like gathering information as opposed to relating to it.
I appreciate your thoughtful and lovely reply….I have not shopped in the grocery store for so long….I love our Community supported Agriculture (CSA)
I just hope that we can get a big read of this book – because I think there are lots of women silently (and men) suffering out there…and if a personalized compounded solution can move them to health – and not to the mental institution I am all for it…
I am a bit jealous too – as you have had so many more reads already for your post and even the woman who organized the book tour wrote here and on other blog posts, but not mine

Hi Patricia,
You are most welcome! You are fortunate to have a CSA. We have Whole Foods which works fine for us. Actually, I do not know what we would do without it since not many people in my area are into natural foods. Hopefully, this will change with time.
And I am so with you concerning a personalized approach to health care than immediately giving someone a pill. The human body is capable of so much especially when mind and spirit are working along side it.
As for the jealousy, there is no need to be. You rock!
Hi Nadia,
I find the Chakras to be in close agreement with my body and beliefs, too. I enjoyed reading your take on this as well as the book you reviewed.
And, I’m nodding my head as I read along in regards to your comments about dieting. My undergrad degree is in nutrition – but I didn’t work in dietetics for long because I truly believe good “nutrition practices” start with changing behaviors and beliefs. I realized quickly that most of the people needed a psychologist or spiritual guide more than anything else. Which is why I continued my journey later in life to learn massage/energy work and as well as continuing my spiritual quest.
I view you as one of my soul sisters. Every time I come here I feel I’m at home.
Thanks for being you, Nadia.

I loved how you shared your observations about those who were struggling with weight. It is interesting that not many people realize that a lot of healing takes place within.
And yay for loving chakras!
I heard a doctor once say that 80 percent of illnesses he saw were caused or exacerbated by stress. I think stress’s role in the body’s functioning is recognized by even the most empirically motivated scientist. I think talking about the role of “stress” is just another way of saying the same thing that you are in this post. The more holistic we can get in our thinking, the more effective we will be in promoting health.

Hi Lena,
Stress sucks! You are so right in what you wrote. I think stress is what makes people so miserable and causes so many health problems. I also think people think that being stressed is a normal condition and it is not. We are designed to be at peace and in harmony but for some reason, people do not see that as being possible. Hopefully, this will change sooner than later.
Hope all is awesome with you!
Hi Nadia,
In the busy-ness of day to day it is easy to think of a harmonious life as getting all things done, addressing all people at the right times and in the right manner and maintaining our sanity in the process. But real harmony is when our body, mind and spirit are in sync and we approach the world with all chakras spinning, as you write. That visual really inspires me!
Jodi at Joy Discovered´s last blog ..A Small Dose of Self-Care
Hi Jodi,
I loved how you wrote that many may view being in harmony as getting things done in a proper manner and being sane in the process. Goes to show that people have different definitions for the same word.
You are so right…many may view harmony as such a state of being and such a state of being is quite admirable. However, being aligned fully (true harmony) is taking things to the next level which is inevitable. We all will get to that point of alignment eventually.
Hope all is awesome!
Hi Nadia,
Love how you wrote this post Nadia.
The one reason i never went into psychiatry was i was totally against the pills culture. I have seen the ill effects of it on a few of my patients who would come to me as a last resort after being subjected to a heavy dose of anti depressant or pain killers. And will you believe this…some of the patients were kids merely 10 years of age….!!!
I did psychology instead in addition to naturopathy and many holistic methods of healing….which put together is working as an excellent combo in healing mind body and soul. I am more for the holistic method..than the pill popping culture.
Its uncanny that all this talk about pills is just getting to our heads…cause seriously even on tv every 3rd advt. is of some kind of medication.
If only people truly understood that this body is indeed as you put the coolest most efficient machine in the world…which can sustain and provide for itself.
All people need is belief in the natural phenomenon of life……
You wont believe…even today i get patients who come to me for a counseling session and will end the session asking me for a pill prescription..and i will give them herbal remedies instead. I do plan on making people believers one at a time…slow and steady…
I am so glad you and me both think alike on this…
Much Love,
Z~
p.s.sorry havent been around that much…..some real life issues…I hate missing any of your posts…:(
Hi Zeenat,
No worries about not being around much. I know how busy life can be. Just know you are always welcome here!
I totally agree with you about not loving the idea of treating an issue solely with a pill. I guess the appeal of treating an issue with a pill is easier than having to go within and see what is happening.
Let’s face it, many people want things the easy way and inner work is far from easy. A pill may make a person feel better but it will not solve the problem.
By the way, ever notice in those commercials the side effects of the drugs are often worse than the condition the medicine was prescribed for in the first place? Kind of funny.
Hi Nadia
Being a “holistic” writer, practitioner and advocate – I definitely stand behind healing the body through an integrative and whole approach, not treating one part at a time, or isolating this or that. Current medicine treats symptoms. We need to treat the root causes. Or better yet, maintain the body in balance and never get sick….and yes it is possible as many of us know.
For women in general, I know the world today has just become very overwhelming. The women is not just the child and home caretaker. Today she is also a career woman. In fact what doesn’t a woman today do… This adds up for a lot of women and simply becomes too much too handle. It has nothing to do with weakness and everything with living more and more out of balance, due to society’s demands.
Thanks for looking into and reviewing this book. Always great to learn about the different types of resources out there.
Evita´s last blog ..Book Review: The Harvard Psychedelic Club
Hi Evita,
Medicine does treat the symptoms but does not get to the cause of an issue. There are some doctors out there who do take a holistic approach but it is not the majority. It is interesting to see the difference between younger doctors and older ones. The majority of people in my family are in medicine. The older generation of doctors tend to have a much more holistic approach than the younger ones. Many people go into medicine for the money and prestige. Not many do it for the love of healing…maybe that is why medicine is the way that it is…at least, that is what I have seen here. I could be wrong.
I think another reason why life may seem so demanding is because there is greater pressure to have the appearance of having it all. Many people kill themselves at jobs in an effort to bring in enough money to have the things that they want. Simpler living means having simple things which do not cost most. Due to the current economic situation, people have had to cut back on things which was hard for them. So maybe the demands are in relation to the desires.
However, whatever the case may be, being harmonious is important for making the most out of life. And you are welcome for the review. It is my pleasure to share as much information as I can.
Hi Nadia! Wonderful post – I am SOOO with you on the chakras, and the tie-in with emotions and health. HUGE connection! And boy everyone has a spot of vulnerability that will act up – mine is my colon – that old root chakra. It wasn’t junk food I was eating as much as it was junk I was THINKING. Had to clear out more than just the pantry!
I LOVE the title of that book – as you know, my female brain has gone insane with regularity, so much so, in fact, that it can slip right on into insanity with a mere breath anymore. I’ve learned to embrace that insanity and just let it play out til it gets weary, and it DOES get weary, and goes away. I just keep laughing!
Namaste and hugs
suZen
Hi SuZen,
I hear you about the junk you were thinking. I was the same way too. Amazing how we can mess ourselves up without realizing what is happening. I am happy that you were able to clear things out!
Actually, the title of the book is kind of misleading…that said, you are not insane at all.
Then again, this is coming from a person who takes issue with the word “normal”…I mean….why be normal? No fun in it at all!
I’ve read all the comments with great interest. What Natalia says about how our culture views PMS is sadly all too true.
And Patricia she has been through so so much. I thought her review of the book was great too, maybe the author just hasn’t read it yet?

Thank you so much for clearing that up…I had no idea what ANC was supposed to be.
In NLP, there’s the concept of congruence. It’s about getting your thinking, feeling, and doing in sync. It’s a strong place to be.

Hi JD,
Thinking, feeling and doing are important and need to be in sync. However, mind-body-spirit harmony takes it one step higher and enables all aspects to be function in unison.
Nadia,
I love this post. I love Peggy’s comment too:)
The mind/body connection has always been huge for me. Whatever I am dealing with externally is manifested internally in my body. When all is well, my health is well, when all is not well the specific area of my body that correlates is affected. It is quite strong for me. I have to be most mindful of respecting and honoring my internal values in an external way and of protecting my Spirit in the external world.
In my current struggle with cervical cancer, I know exactly how I was wounded and why it manifested at that spot. I know I have healed mentally and spiritually and it was time to heal physically to become whole. I have tried to heal as holistically as possible which drives my doctors and friends in the health industry batty; that’s okay because it’s my body, it’s my present, it’s my future…..The Universe is completely with me on this part of my journey:)
Hi Joy,
The Universe is definitely with you now and always.
Isn’t it funny how some people in the health industry freak out with this line of thinking? The majority of people in my family are in medicine. We have many doctors and nurses. The older ones are more open to holistic and spiritual methods than the younger ones which I think is funny. You would think it would be the opposite but it is not.
It is wonderful that you know how you were wounded and why it manifested the way that it did. That is big blessing and I am so happy that you are so aware. That makes such a big difference.
Keep on shining, girl!
The Anatomy of the Spirit is a favorite book of mine. I ventured into alternative medicine some 9 years ago and through personal experiences, have come to appreciate the holistic approach to healing of what appears to be simply bodily symptoms. Your post here reminds me that I need to pay a visit to my N.D. soon! Thanks!!

Hi Evelyn,
That book is truly a must read. For me, it opened my eyes to the reality that unhealed emotions will manifest in the body at some point. I have seen it in myself and in others. Good for you for already being on the path!
Hi Nadia, oh how beautiful that we more and more become aware of connectedness at every level.
I even caught myself at times to create a migraine because I really did not feel like going to work.
Now I am very seldom sick and when I do have a mishap I heal very quickly. I have no reason to be sick and it is interesting how healthy that makes you.
There is always a reason why nature becomes unbalanced, and as we are part of nature that goes for us as well.
Great reminder of how we create everything, even our health.
Lots of love for that, Wilma
Wilma Ham´s last blog ..Ann-Marie on Do we Learn from our Experiences?
Hi Wilma,
I know what you mean about the wonders of what we can create. Often we like to focus on all the wonderful things we can manifest but we often forget that the same applies to things that we may not love.
It is wonderful that you are seldom sick. Yay!
Dear Nadia,

It is true that our body is often a reflection of our emotions, because like any flower that is dying the cause is always at the root. Noticing these effects can benefit our own growth as transitional beings of light here on earth, and make us more aware of how delicate our body is. Accessing ways in which we can bring these knowns to the surface is one of the greatest ways in which we connect with ourselfs, and nature. When we are balanced, we are in our truest state and healing becomes a natural cycle. As beings this is who we are, and our modern society has challenged that around.
Like Wilma I am rarely sick too, because I have always been in that balanced state and that healing process has always been there to aid the cycle naturally. Whenever I am sick (which is rare) I observe where it is coming from, and rectify it almost naturally. It is like an inbuilt natural system built into the core of who we are, that natural energy that flows within all of us radiating our very essence.
Peace be among you my friend.
I feel I am connected with you now.
Ana Goncalves´s last blog ..Share your gifts with the world and shine
Hi Ana,
Beautiful analogy with the flower. That is so true.
Everything is interconnected and so when our emotions are out of control it will impact our body. It may take time for the impact to be felt but it is there. And if one issue keeps happening, it just builds and builds to the point that we have an ailment that needs greater attention.
It is interesting because when I was immersed in my spiritual journey, I never got sick. The minute I went back to being a lawyer, I began to get sick often. Now that I stopped being a lawyer, I never felt better and everything is coming together.
Being in tune with ourselves is so important.
Good for you for being in a balanced state!
Peace and blessings to you!
hi nadia,
i truly related to this article and how the our emotions take a toll on our bodies. when i am holding in any feelings (anger, frustration, stress) i feel it immediately inside and my body heats up and feels like i’m literally fuming as you would see in old cartoons with steam coming out of ears! i am still learning to express and release these emotions by not holding them inside and being confident about self expression in those situations and it’s been helping tremendously! i honestly believe you can make yourself sick and hypochondria is not a myth. it was interesting to read your post and know it’s not just me
Hi Caroline,
I hear you about the steam. Been there, done that and hope it diminishes with time!
Learning to express ourselves is a life-long journey. It is funny, for a few weeks, I was having a recurring dream about one area of my body. At first, I thought it was strange because it made no sense. Then as the dreams kept coming, I realized what was happening and it made me realize what I needed to do. I will write more about this experience in a few days because it was really interesting.
We definitely can make ourselves sick. There is no need to hold back on emotions and not share what we feel.
And it is definitely not just you!
